what does lindo mean by sacrifice?
she says she sacrificed her life when she married Tyan-yu. Later she says she must sacrifice her American or Chinese face when she shows the other.

It is difficult to live part of two cultures at the same time. To assimilate into American culture Tyan-yu feels she must let go of her Chinese identity. To fit into Chinese culture, even within American Chinese community, she must not have American traits.
