The Jilting of Granny Weatherall

The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Katherine Anne Porter

TC3.  Do you think Granny's moment of death-symbolized by her blowing out the light at the end of the story-is an act of resignation or an act of defiance?  Explain your response.

Before granny dies, she longs to see Hapsy. She prays for a sign from God, but receives none. Granny feels jilted once again, perhaps more than anytime before. I think the blowing out of the candle is one of resignation.
