Choy uses her three main characters, Jook-Liang, Jung-Sum and Sek-Lung, who are siblings to paint a picture of Chinatown in the 1930s and 40s. These characters, who are siblings, each tell their own stories, sharing their experiences, and highlighting their desire to forge their own identities during WWII.
