Mr Worthing keep Cecily a secret from Algernon, because he is the guardian of Cecily, so his responsability is to protect her and to take care about her and he thinks that Algernon isn't the better man for her ward Cecily. Algernon is oldest that the girl, she is only 18 years old. That can be an answer?

Also, Mr Worthing knows that Algy has debts in his credit-card, as a consequence of that, since the first time that Worthing speaks about his niece, in return of his cigarette case, Algy was interested in Cecily, that means that he can be only interested in her money. Can it be?
