why did the author write this book? why did she write in dialect as the people spoke

The author wrote this book to bring light to Henrietta Lacks's contributions to medicine as well as the horrible way she was treated by the medical community. Rebecca Skloot wanted to keep a sense of realism in the novel so she included the accents.
