HeLa allowed scientists to perform experiments they'd never before been able to perform on human beings. I believe that Gey's sharing of the cells was imperative. Gey wanted to find a cure for cancer, and he wasn't selfish enough to believe that he could do it on his own. Let's face it..... we still haven't found a cure for cancer.
