One ethical question posed in the novel is whether of not scientists can ethically perform tests without full disclosure and permission. Neither Henrietta, nor, her husband were given details about the tests done on Henrietta both before and after her death. Neither were apprised of the research her body and cells afforded the scientists in question. Ethically, should the doctors and researchers have provided for informed consent? Should anyone be allowed to harvest and text our bodies without full disclosure and consent?
