The arena is where the tributes train for the games right? Well, in the movie the lady says that some of you might be killed before the actual games begin. why?

The Hunger Games is a book by Suzanne Collins. The plot is when 16 year old Katniss Everdeen is chosen to be one of the 23 tributes to compete in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. When Katniss goes to the reaping ceremony where two young man and woman are chosen to attend the hunger games, Primrose Everdeen, Katniss's younger sister is chosen, Katniss volunteers for Primrose. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are both the children that are chosen to compete in the Hunger Games. I don't know how old Peeta is but I'm guessing around 17 or 16 years old.
