why does buttercup hate Katniss ?

He hates Katniss due to her attempt to drown him in a bucket, though they sometimes act friendly to each other. After Katniss starts to feed him the entrails from her hunting kills, he stops hissing at her. Buttercup is said to be a born mouser and even catches the occasional rat.
