What part of North America was both the book and film set?

I don't think this is specified, The country consists of a wealthy Capitol city, located in the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by twelve (originally thirteen) poorer districts ruled by the Capitol.

Suzanne Collins did not specify what region/part of North America the Hunger Games was set in place. It would have been quite useful.

Rocky Mountains

She said The capital is in a place called the Rockies the 12 districts surround the capital district 12 is in the Appalachian mountains that's why they mine coal she also specifies that all of the districts are to the east of the capital and that the Rockies act as a natural barrier that was a big factor in the districts losing the revolution the first time also if you pay attention to what their districts main output is you can kind of get a feeling of where they are like district 11 is probably in the Midwest because it's in agricultural district 4 is probably on the southern coast because they do fishing things like that
