How does our society's view of the elderly/overweight people differ from that of Panem?

Panem seems to be all about excess and food is part of that. Many of the people overindulge in food. Their heavy weight is seen as a sign of status and privilege rather than looked down upon. Skinny people lived in the poverty stricken districts.
