Claudius' name is historically significant because he shares it with the Roman Emperor. Claudus translates lame, and the Roman emperor did, in fact, suffer from a deformity he acquired as a result of polio. Claudius Templesmith, however, is lame in the modern sense..... as in "you're lame".
