How does a high score in training help a tribute?
A high score indicates the tribute's potential in the arena, as assessed by the Gamemakers. Since there is so much that is unpredictable about the Games, the score doesn't really indicate anything about how a tribute will actually fare. The score is subjective, and limited by what the Gamemakers can see in the testing room. However, a high score does help in one important way: it makes a tribute more appealing to sponsors. Sponsors can pay to give a tribute necessary supplies, and can mean the different between life or death.
