why was holmes more interested in the newspaper than the legend of hound(chapter 2)

After finishing the letter, Dr. Mortimer is surprised to see Holmes yawn; he thinks the tale is only interesting to a "collector of fairytales":  he would rather read the newspaper that has factual information.
