This really depends on your personal preference. I personally like Watson. Watson is supposed to be a character foil for Mr. Holmes. While Holmes is insightful, Watson is able to methodically breakdown the case. He often acts as a sounding board for Mr. Holmes's detached musings. Although seldom getting the credit that he deserves, Watson is a humble and vital part of Holmes's success.
