Why does Preston introduce Charlotte Godwin and why does he want the readers to see the events at the Reston monkey house from her point of view?

Eighteen-year-old Private First Class Charlotte Godwin is the closest person to a civilian as the story has. She lacks the experience and training of the other characters. The reader can relate to Charlotte's interpretation of events better than the more seasoned veterans.
