I'm sorry, but this is an example of personification. In context, the quote reads.....

It (the Ebola virus) was an invasive life form, devastating and promiscuous. It showed a kind of obscenity you see only in nature, an obscenity so extreme that it dissolves imperceptibly into beauty.
