Why do you think it is significant that people in the area in which they camp haven't heard of the king??? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

This is significant because it provides information about the area they are.... it's secluded, seldom traveled, and the people are ignorant of news and goings on. It also alludes to the fact the area might just be dangerous and uncivilized.

Others said: “These parts are none too well known, and are too near the mountains. Travellers seldom come this way now. The old maps are no use: things have changed for the worse and the road is unguarded. They have seldom even heard of the king round here, and the less inquisitive you are as you go along, the less trouble you are likely to find.”
