The Hobbit

List anthropomorphic descriptions of lonely mountain. What does Tolkien achieve through these descriptions?

Most of the questions I'm asking are to make sure I'm correct.

Most all of Tolkien's main creatures and characters who inhabit his world are anthropomorphic in some way. This is how we relate to them. Anger, happiness, fear, greed....can be seen in dwarves, elves, hobbits and even Smaug the dragon.
