When Thorin tells Bilbo, "Now is the time for the burglar to earn his reward," what new indication might this give you about Thorin's character?
This line indicates that Thorin takes Bilbo a bit for granted, and shows an under-appreciation for the many times that the hobbit has saved the day! It may be that Thorin has a bit of an inflated view of his own importance. It is to Bilbo's credit that he sticks up for himself, and reminds Thorin what an asset he's been (and that he's probably "earned his reward" many times over!).
