Why does Father consider giving his life for "that Jewish child" to be "the greatest honor that could come to my family"?

For Father, sacrificing his own life for that of one small child would be the greatest honor of his life. Mr. Ten Boom was a selfless, giving man.

Because the Jewish people are God's most ancient loving people and he felt that they should be cared for just as God cared for them back in the beginning.
