How did Cocky stop soldiers from finding Bob and Peter’s hiding spot?

Cocky actually didn't stop the soldiers from finding her brothers, she simply told the truth. When she told the soldiers her brothers were hiding under the table, they thought she was making fun of them, and they didn't look. This was fortunate for the boys..... and Cocky didn't have to lie.
