According to the narrator why can't Miss Leefolt soothe her own baby?

If you could I'd like a quote from the book to accompany the answer.

According to the narrator, Miss. Leefolt cannot soothe her own baby because "her body be so full a sharp knobs and corners...". The narrator says that, "Babies like fat. Like to bury they face up in you armpit and go to sleep."
