The Heir is a young adult fictional novel by Kiera Cass and was published by HarperTeen on May 6, 2015. It is a sequel to Cass' best-selling trilogy, The Selection. The Heir is set twenty years after the events of The One and the main protagonist in the story is the daughter of America Schreave, the protagonist of the Selection series. This time, it is Princess Eadlyn who will select one of 24 male members as a potential husband and future King to Illea.
Cass's story follows Princess Eadlyn's challenges as the future Queen and her reluctance in getting married, while also carrying on with the backdrop of the Selection series of people wanting to overthrow the monarchy and remove the caste system once and for all. The Heir has received generally positive reviews especially for the different take on the protagonist this time around.
