why is Janine so hatefyl?

Janine feels that she is constantly in competition with the other people. She craves attention and acts out for attention. She overdoes her crying and confessions which makes her seem less than authentic. As for 1984, we can perhaps draw some parallels with Julia although they do have their differences.
