How are they different? Why are theys o different?

the ending of this novel to that of 1984. How are they different? Why are theys o different?

The endings to the story are very different. In "The Handmaid's Tale" Offred is carted off by the "Eyes". Nick tells her that they are really Mayday members but we can't know for sure. Offred has been having a real affair with Nick so, if they are the Mayday, we are unsure if Offred is going to prison or freedom. In 1984, Winston's brain has been made into tapioca. O'Brien has "re-educated" him through torture. He is a shell of the man he used to be. Winston is really no longer Winston anymore.
