Who wrote the message on Daru's blackboard ?

People, Arabs, had been watching Daru and the prisoner. They do not, however, follow them up the mountain so they are not aware of the choice Daru gives him. They think that Daru was simply taking him to French prison so they write the threat on the chalkboard.
