why does gatsby offer nick work?

Nick knows Gatsby wants something from him. He wants Nick to set him up with Daisy Nick and is offering him an opportunity for services rendered. Nick feels that the offer is not sincere and that Gatsby is simply looking for something to trade for a shot at Daisy.
