The Great Gatsby

While the reader can have easily predicted Daisy and Tom's reactions to his party Gatsby cannot. Why not?

Gatsby sees everything he has done as a way of impressing Daisy. Its opulence is purposeful, he wants Daisy to understand he has arrived financially...... that he is worthy. All Gatsby can see is the money and what is can buy him..... he doesn't see the vulgarity.
