Nick is affable and not opinionated. He comes to East Egg as, like the reader, an outsider into the society of the filthy rich. Most readers are quite comfortable seeing the world through the eyes of Nick: the reader discovers what Nick discovers. Nick is flat enough as a character to let the reader experience this world first hand without much bias or manipulation.
