Gatsby chased the future. He wanted it so badly bring life to his illusions that he lost sight of reality. Unfortunately all Gatsby's wealth cannot control time and fate. Gatsby could not simply will emotions and circumstances to occur. He ends up only battling himself and chasing his own lonely sad fate.
