What is Gatsby giving up when he kisses her? Why?

At the end of the chapter, Nick describes gatsby kissing Daisy in Louisville five years before.

Gatsby is giving up any sense of himself. Gatsby must surrender his personal sense of the fantastic, that "His mind would never romp again like the mind of God." After the kiss Gatsby will sacrifice his life for her love or rather the illusion of her love.
