Gatsby is completely miserable and frightened for Daisy. His nerves free his tongue and he talks openly for the first time.

His facade has broken down. Now that he's been revealed, he has no more need to hide his past. Plus, by telling his story, he justifies his love for Daisy to Nick and that his quest to win her back is legitimate.
