What does Nick mean when he says, "There must have been moments even that afternoon Daisy tumbled short of his dreams -- not though her own fault, but because of the colossal vitality of his illusion"?

In this statement, Nick alludes to the fact that Daisy could never had lived up to the reality of Gatsby's illusion.
