Nick is claiming that everyone falls into one of these categories. Gatsby represents the pursued, people of interest. Like Gatsby, Jordan falls into this same category. The pursuing are people who are always chasing new....... a new goal, a new partner. Gatsby falls under this caregory also, as does Nick. Tom is one of the busy, whereas the tires rarely bring themselves to do anything (Daisy). Nick believes in this form of categorization and bases his beliefs on the people he knows.
