The Great Gatsby The End

Can we trust Nick? He says at the end of Chapter 3 that he is "the only honest man he's ever known"; literary critics, however, often consider him hopelessly dishonest and hypocritical.

Fitzgerald spends a lot of time describing Nick's trustworthiness. What we hear is, of course, is Nick's memory of the story. His recollections are definitely subjective to his own interpretation. If we cannot trust him, however, Fitzgerald has torn and ernormous hole in his own plot.
