The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby, Chapter 2

On "The Great Gatsby" Chapter 2, when Tom and Nick went to meet Myrtle and several others, why did Myrtle suddenly say "Who said I was crazy about him? I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there." and pointed at Nick after Catherine questioned "You were crazy about him for a while?

Myrtle is referring to her husband, who at this point is one of two people in her way of having happiness with Tom. She is trying to convince the others that she never loved her husband.... that she never felt more for her husband than she did a stranger (Nick).
