The Great Gatsby

In Chapter 8, what does Nick mean when Wilson realises something about Myrtle's death after finding the dog-leash, "But conceivably Wilson had heard some of these same explanations before, from Myrtle, because he began sayin 'Oh, my God!' again in a whisper - his comforter left several explanations in the air." ?

Michaelis is giving George possible explanations for the dog leash that Myrtle bought. Instead of comforting George, he becomes more and more certain that Myrtle is cheating on him.
