This triangle is pretty complex and emotionally charged. Tom hates Gatsby. He hates that his wife Daisy is attracted to him and they were once to be married. He hates Gatsby's success bootlegging and his "new money". Tom is pretty abusive to Daisy but she stays with him because she likes the lifestyle of the ultra rich. Gatsby dislikes Tom because he is married to the woman he loves.
