What does Tom buy for Myrtle? Using the information gained about the valley of ashes, how does Myrtle’s relationship with Tom directly oppose her married life?

There are copies of “Town Tattle” strewn around Myrtle and Tom’s New York City apartment. “Town Tattle” was a 1920s forerunner to Perez Hilton.  What does the presence of this magazine say about the characters of Myrtle and Tom?

Tom buys Myrtle a puppy and keeps an apartment for their affair. Tom is wealthy enough to afford an apartment for his assignations, and Myrtle is starstruck and easily impressed, as is evident in her choice of reading material.
