In Chapter Seven, Tom and Gatsby become true rivals. Daisy's reunion with Gatsby has made her reckless and indscreet. Tom takes the cue and becomes evermore suspicious and territorial. He humiliates Gatsby in every way possible, naming his numerous crimes, after which, Gatsby in his humiliation attempts to get Daisy to reveal that she'll leave her husband. No dice...... Daisy knows her background, understands what the repercussions would be, and values her name, status and family (her daughter) above all else. There really isn't a contest at all.
