Daisy is actually quite superficial. Tom comes from old and permanent money. Gatsby is more of a gamble when it comes to her life of luxury.

Tom is available and incredibly wealthy--and only available for a short while. Daisy didn't want to risk losing Tom while waiting for Gatsby, so she married Tom and tried to convince herself she made the right choice. She did, as far as money and status was concerned--for that era, Tom was a helluva catch. But as far as love? Daisy was simply too shallow. She convinced herself that she loved Tom, and that was all she needed.
