The Great Gatsby

Chapter 7

"I glanced at Daisy, who was staring terrified between Gatsby and her husband, and at Jordan, who had begun to balance an invisible but absorbing object on the tip of her chin. Then I turned back to Gatsby -- and was startled to at his expression. He looked -- and this is said in all contempt for the babbled slander of his garden - as if he had 'killed a man'. For a moment the set of his face could be described in just that fantastic way" (134).

What is Gatsby's expression based on Nick's description?

If I follow this right, Nick and Gatsby are having it out. Daisy and Gatsby's affair is in the open and Gatsby is is full of contempt for the very people, the filthy ritch like Tom, that he has become himself. Gatsby, does not share the same traits as Tom. He doesn't know quite how to handle Tom.
