The Great Gatsby

Analyze the following quote and it's importance in the novel.

"It was a strange coincidence," I said.

"But it wasn't a coincidence at all."

"Why not?"

"Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay."

- The Great Gatsby, Chapter 4, Paragraph 137-140

Thanks a lot.

Gatby's entire life is built around his obsession with Daisy. Everything he has built is merely a way to get closer to her. Gatsby is really stuck in the illusion he has of the past and trying to re-create it.
