The Grapes of Wrath

What role does writing and education play into the novel?

I was wondering if Education and writing was the reason the Joads and other people were living in poverty. Is this the role education and writing plays? If not the what is?

I don't think really in this context. These were sharecroppers who were part of generations of sharecroppers on the land. Feeding the family was the most important thing. Education was far beyond their means. It was impossible for parents to send their kids to school. Had there been a little support for education and food, things might have been different in the long run.
