Progress in the form of agribusiness combined with drought-like conditions forces the small farmer and sharecropper out of business. With mechanization brought less need for work intensive plots of land. Larger mechanized farms changed forced families off the land forever changing socio-economic conditions. Traditions which incorporated small hamlets of families eking out a living from the land and basically living according to their ways were gone.
