Chapter 27, How is the cotton industry corrupt on the part of the landowners as well as the pickers? What is ironic about this corruption?

Those who want to pick cotton must first purchase a bag before they can make money. The men who weigh the cotton fix the scales to cheat the workers. This is ironic because they are starving the very people they need to pick the cotton.
