Visualizing the Journey
Kind of Activity:
Students will be able to translate Steinbeck's descriptive prose into another medium
Common Core Standards:
Discuss Steinbeck's descriptive writing with the students. Steinbeck uses a great deal of physical and sensory detail; what are the results of this literary choice? Some students may be bored, but others are likely to find that they can picture the settings in the novel, that they know the Oklahoma landscape or the isolated gas station along the road. Read a few of your favorite passages aloud to enhance students' understanding of Steinbeck's use of imagery.
