What do you think the director is trying to communicate to the audience through this scene? Pay attention to a few key elements and symbols.

In the pool scene, The wet suit, mask ans respirator: What feelings and physical sensations might Ben be experiencing because of these things? Why are these feelings and sensations important?

Again, the isolation and alientaion that Ben feels. The view through his mask is myopic: a symbol of the world that is estranged to him. The bottom of the pool is a place to hide.
