The novel is entitled 'The Good Earth' because it contains a continuous theme that land (the earth) has a connection with nature, and the moral values, common sense, and work ethic required to be a true success. To take the land for granted is a recipe for disaster. If you look at the feast (wealth) or famine aspect; the land giveth and taketh away.
